“The property is lovely, the views are stunning!”

It is a perfect location for staying local or as a cantral base to explore wider Wales- we did both! Brilliant value for money and a responsive host. The house is well equipped as a home from home and even has a slow cooker (which was fantastic for setting up dinner after a lengthy day hiking) the garden looks beautiful and likewise well equipped. Parking was great, directions to the property and instructions for arrival/checkout very clear. As mentioned to host, it could be a little clearer ...

“When we arrived at Gorwell first impressions were very good untill a little later and we found that the bathroom was poorly lit due to blown light bulbs.”

Also the heat from the shower and radiators were very low and was unable to have a decent showere and poor heating.we were instructed by the owners letter as to not interfere with the boiler. We also had a bad experience with the bedding as this had been put onto the beds not completely dry which made the beds stink,the only way to describe this it smelt like someone had “pissed on a hot radiator”,we washed the pillow cases and duvet covers but it smelt the same.although there was a washer drier,the drier did’nt heat to dry the bedding and a clothesline was’nt readily available,so at our own expense took these to a local laundry,also poor hygiene in the kitchen area, But despite all of this we got on and had a reasonable stay

“This is the 4th time we have stayed here and probably the last.”

Albeit be a lovely little place..the cleanliness as declined on each stay. This time we were astounded to find that the bathroom hadn't even been cleaned, the toilet was full of poo and took some time to clean.. not what u want to walk into after a long journey. The bed in the main room had been upgraded which was better, the rugs at each side are lethal as they slide very easily. The sofa and chairs are still very low and uncomfortable especially making it difficult for my disabled husband to get up from.

The cleaner then visited and I believe the cottage was satisfactory thereafter. Following your useful feedback we have fitted non-slip mats in the bedroom to stablise the brand new bedside rugs. “This cottage was fantastic.”

It's in a great, quiet area, and with having two young children, the fact that it's a bungalow was great as we didn't have to worry about stairs. It was warm enough, well presented, and a very nice homey place to be. Not to mention dog friendly meaning we could bring our dog with us to join us on all of our day trips! The washing machine was great though the dryer not as great. Maybe we were using it wrong but ended up bringing our clothes to the launderette to dry them, but otherwise great! There was lots of equipment in the kitchen for making various meals and there was great communication from the owner too. Would recommend this place. We had a very happy holiday here.

“1* This was my second visit to Gorwel as we really enjoyed the location but we won’t be returning in the future.”

We found dog feces on the kitchen table on arrival and quickly removed it due to the smell. We decided to inform the owner Bernard who was quick to tell us that there was no dog in the accommodation before us. I didn’t think for 1 minute a dog had done this. Someone had clearly walked in it then placed their footwear on the table. Easy mistake and an apology would have been sufficient. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos in my haste to remove it so the owner didn’t believe me. He was extremely rude and suggested I contact Skye’s if I wanted compensation or alternative accommodation. Sykes were helpful in suggesting a deep clean and possibly compensation as we also found further discrepancies in the living area and the kitchen. Unfortunately the owner was not willing to apologise or accept the blame which we found quite shocking! I have never had to complain before and I expected a better response from the owner whom in my opinion was extremely rude! After removing the duvet covers I was even more horrified to see all the stains on the duvet. Absolutely disgusting! Sykes you should review this property again. A little bit more attention to detail could quite easily make this property a 4* but unfortunately the owner isn’t interested.

“Gorwel is exactly as described.”

The views from the living room are fantastic.We found the beds comfortable and our kitchen had everything we needed and more. The patio area is great and catches plenty of sun. It all made for a peaceful stay. Negatives - not Gorwel's fault but a Toyota Yaris parks constantly ( on double yellow lines !! ) adjacent to Gorwel's named parking bay making manouvering in and out really difficult. We did find the living room furniture low and very uncomfortable but that is subjective. A bigger problem is lack of Wi Fi. This is so universal these days that I hadn't even checked to see if it was available when making the booking. We are an older couple , not youngsters never off our smart phones , but it was still an issue for us and had I checked beforehand I would not have booked Gorwel. This is 2024 and some things are standard these days. Lastly ( and again not Gorwel's fault ) - the pub does not do food on Mon or Tues AND if it's quiet they don't bother on other days even though food is advertised for those days. The takeaways in the village a few miles away do not deliver.

“Had a lovely few days at the cottage the views are so beautiful.”

The cottage is very well equipped , I personally found the bed in larger bedroom was to firm for me so moved into smaller front bedroom. Had good nights sleep. The facilities all as described. Good size secured back garden Somy little dog had plenty of room to charge about. Lots of throws to cover furniture with but I had taken my own . The water always hot lots of large towels provided but again I had taken my own. I can recommend the Oakley pub about 10 mins drive from cottage and also just at bottom of back garden the Peng wan Arms. I would definitely return to this lovelyplace

“I had a wonderful holiday, literally home from home.”

Everything you needed, no short cuts. Porthmadog only 20 minutes drive, well worth a visit. The local village had a small shop, pub just up the road, result. Parking across the road, so no hassle when you return from a long day out. My girl (dog) enjoyed galloping round the garden. Defiantly a return visit due.

Great views of the mountains from the lounge, great location for mountains, woodlands and coast. Large secure back garden ideal for my dog. Good close parking. Cottage nice and warm and cosy. Modern and practical would have benefited from a few small additions, i.e. toilet paper, soap, bin liners. Would return again, friendly locals.

“We loved out stay at Gorwel Cottage, it was a well laid out, well equipped and tastefully decorated cottage in a peaceful prime location with stunning views, lovely neighbours and a couple of horses in the field across the way who were there to greet us when we arrived.”

The cottage was in a great central location enabling us to visit many areas such as Bala, Porthmadog, Barmouth etc. Generally the cottage was tidy and cleanish - bit more time spent on cleaning perhaps required in the future but this did not dampen our stay. We slept well on very comfortable mattresses and the dogs enjoyed having a good sniff around the garden although a couple of holes in the fencing need to be rectified and garden tidied a little but it didn't stop us from sitting out in the garden enjoying the sunshine and stunning views. Overall we had a fab holiday, the positives certainly outway the couple of negative issues we had. We really enjoyed staying here and we would certainly stay here again, definitely recommend it! The seating area in the lounge could be more comfortable. There was an issue with flushing the toilet even with a small amount of toilet paper. The shower runs straight out on to the floor unless you turn the dial by a quarter turn. There was also no green bin for general waste. Apart from that we had a lovely stay and would definitely return.

“This property has outstanding views of the mountains which are without doubt just gorgeous.”

The garden was clean, tidy and well cared for (if you’ve got a small dog, it’s not 100% secure as my small dog found holes under the fences). The bungalow was mostly clean, needs some attention to detail cleaning (kitchen cupboards, oven, extractor fan in bathroom, shower base!) but the floors, beds, curtains etc were spotless. The mattresses on both beds are amazing but take your own pillows. So much to do in the vicinity, also a bonus, overall a good bungalow, very quiet, cosy.

We spent over an hour cleaning when we arrived. The furniture is very low and modern and we found it uncomfortable. The bed was comfortable but again very low. Every thing you needed was their, so well equipped. The views of the mountains and waterfalls were fantastic. An ideal base for exploring Snowdonia and only an hour from Anglesey.

Garden was secure for the dog. Then only problem we found was the furniture was very basic, uncomfortable and really low which my husband found very difficult to get out off as he is disabled. Also WiFi would be an added benefit.

“Lovely bungalow, very comfortable, the view from the lounge window was amazing, great location as you could go for walks from there or drive a short way to get to all different walks.”

The only thing’s that I wasn’t really happy with were the hairs & dust on the floors especially in the bathroom behind the shelf unit that has the towels on, & it could be moved but didn’t look like it had been for a very long time, & the garden wasn’t completely secure for our terrier dog, the gate was practically hanging off so we had to put the bin & tall flower pot in front of it to then get a knock on the door to say that this garden is access to next doors garden & that the gentleman needed to go into next doors garden to empty the dustbin/recycling, so we just left the dustbin in front of it or he would have got out & up in the corner near the shed there were fence panels not complete & although my dog didn’t get through, although if left long enough I’m sure he would have squeezed through, a smaller dog definitely would & although it only went into the pub garden I’m not sure if he could have got out of there but other than that we had a lovely stay.

There was dust n hair under all units including a dirty rag under the bed and as for the bathroom . . . The bin was still full the mirror / shower screen and taps were dirty and the shower step hadn't been moved for a while . And we was amazed that there was no mattress topper on bed considering state of mattress . After a long day out you need to come home to a bit of comfort but was disappointed in furniture . There is a letter on kitchen table about the covid situation but didn't seem to be upheld in Gorwel .

As requested we left all the rubbish out, but the refuse collectors did not collect the general household waste. When we arrived there was the previous tenants refuse still uncollected. Perhaps a more detailed set of instructions / collection dates would be useful.

Also they had put items in the outside bin which were not bagged properly and therefore the refuse collectors did not empty the bin. We feel that these issues should have been picked up before the handover.

But the area was to quiet. There was no were in Blaenau Ffestiniog or Llan Ffestiniog to get anything to eat on a Saturday evening or night. no one did any cooking. We had no option but to cook our selves. Not what we wanted after a long drive and unpacking. The area has some beautiful scenery and there were places about 20 miles and further afield to see. The Blaenau ffestiniog railway only ran two trains a day. But they were so close together you would have to ride it to were you wanted to go and stay on the train to get back. Could not fault the cottage would stay there again if it was not in this area.
