Jacqueline “Great base for a large group of people.”
Beds clean and comfortable. The house could do with a thorough clean. I certainly left it cleaner than when we arrived. The oven is filthy and unusable. It needs a professional clean or replacing. That said, plenty of plates, cups, glasses etc. Great location for exploring Snowdon and surrounding area.

Rob “The place is perfect for large groups and has a good mix of bedroom configurations however the cleanliness is horrific and the house needs a considerable amount of maintenance and an extremely deep clean, specific areas needing a thorough clean include the fridge (and a fridge deodoriser), the bathrooms, and it needs a really really good vacuum which means moving things.”
The one bedroom has a hole in the ceiling from a plumbing issue on the floor above and has damp that has led to peeling paint. The bathrooms could really do with the drainage sorting out and having the mouldy mastic redone. House could be amazing but needs a hug

Haroon “Unfortunately we were really disappointed with the cottage.”
The hygiene is shocking for skyes cottages. Mould in bathrooms and top bedroom. The place was that damp the firewood would not burn. The state of the kitchen is not pleasant. This place needs a deep clean. With 15 of us staying and just 2 showers that's really difficult. The real positive was the location and sauna.

Susan “The house was dirty especially floors.”
One bedroom had mould on the walls (and ceiling in the corner) which I had to wash off before anyone could sleep in the room. Skirting board and under sofas were thick with dirt. Towels should also be provided. On the plus side the beds were clean and comfortable and the ability for everyone to eat together was good. If the house was clean and the damp issue was sorted out it would be a great property for large groups.

Paul “I think the place is ideal for a large group for a short stay, the decor could be improved and the carpets could have been cleaned better, but that’s just the agent used to clean after stays.”
The beds have had new mattresses and pillows, so are comfortable. The facilities are great and the working sauna is a massive bonus. Would stay here again for sure

Sarah “We have now used the house for four holidays, and have booked for next year - mainly due to the value offered for a large group and location.”
Nice to see some work has been done (a few new beds and possibly some painting?), but the same old issues, extremely damp smell downstairs, questionable cleanliness of all crockery etc ( the plates are too big for the dishwasher so don't bother trying to wash them in there), filthy glasses and grubby cutlery. Dishwasher filter was revolting and needed scrubbing well. Fridge needs labelling that the bottom shelf will freeze your salad solid. Kitchen really needs a very deep clean. Still got a very dodgy loose tile on the kitchen floor which bites you if you aren't careful. Not offering towels is a mystery to me when most other houses do. Sauna is fab, but the downstairs bathroom really needs some TLC - grubby and very sad looking. But we'll keep coming back for the value spread over a group of 12 people. Don't expect luxury and you won't be disappointed. Oh, and bring your own sharp knives, the ones there are absolutely hopeless. Wifi needs some extenders to get it reliably throughout the house too.

Susan “Halford Hill catered for all the needs of our large family group.”
There was ample parking space, the conservatory was ideal for storing wetsuits, life jackets etc and the fact that the lake was just 5 mins walk away was amazing. There were plenty of places to walk to and also many interesting places within reasonable driving distances. Some of our family enjoyed the challenge of climbing Snowdon. We look forward to returning next year.
- Susan, August 2024 -
Janet “Good communication with the owner and all questions were answered.”
The parking area is smaller than advertised and we only had one large car. The sauna was a warm welcome and looks new. The bedrooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils. However the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The table was tacky to touch even when we cleaned it. The blind was ripped and in a bad state. The oven hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time and covered in grease. The bin is rusted and dirty. Overall the house surfaces were clean but the details ie skirting boards were dirty. It’s in the detail that unfortunately let it down a little. A good position in the town.

Lawrence “Great property for large family group.”
Lots of space and very well equipped and in a great location. Bargain price.

Lucy “We had an amazing trip- The house served most of our needs as a group of 10, we came as a womens group outdoor swimming trip.”
I think if there had been more of us, the lack of a showers would be an issue- There is not one on the top floor (just a bath) and on the second floo the shower tray is very slow draining- This means we could not have more than a super quick shower/ rinse- No time for hair washing etc as the tray fills up. WIth more people it would not have been enough with only the lower floor shower in full working order. The kitchen and dining rooms were brilliant, we all had plenty of space to spread out and not feel on top of each other and we really enjoyed our time. The sauna was a fantastic addition, which we used daily. Because the the tumble drier didn't really work well, providing a clothes airer in the conservatory and a washing line in the yard would make a huge difference. The location was fantastic, and we had a wonderful time, thank you.

Rebecca “Brilliant property in an perfect location clean and comfortable 10/10”
- Rebecca, February 2024 -
Janet “This was a good rental for an intergenerational family meet up - the location is fabulous - easy parking - plenty of bedrooms and bedroom arrangements - nice big dining area and enough bathrooms:-) The sauna was a real treat.”
The house is comfortable and relaxing to be in.
- Janet, January 2024 -
Charly “Great location of house for walking up snowdonia, amazing weekend.”
Sauna was a lovely extra, house was very spacious, would recommend for larger groups.
- Charly, November 2023 -
Paul “Great place to stay for us for the Marathon race, local to the town within minutes of everything.”
The working sauna was definitely an added bonus. Would definitely stay there again as a gang of 12 for next time.
- Paul, October 2023 -
Kate “Halford Hill is a great base for a group of friends or large family to be able to explore Snowdonia.”
It's not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination and I've stayed in cleaner youth hostels. The downstairs bathroom smells of damp and has mould around the corners and edges, however, it also has a very nice sauna which we used every evening after walking and swimming. The skirting boards look like they've never seen a damp cloth, the splash back of the cooker was covered in splashes of grease when we arrived and the place is just generally a bit grubby. However....it is affordable for our group of swim friends to be able to come back here every year and this was our 3rd year. If you can put up with a bit of dirt etc. then it's a really great base for adventures.
- Kate, September 2023 -
Jennifer “Great place for large number of people.”
Very convenient for Snowdon and Llanberis. Close to lake and playpark.Good facilities for cooking, washing and drying. Good parking, but no outside sitting space, rusty barbecue and a few overgrown plants. Lots of stairs (4 floors) to keep you fit. Sauna works well. Huge dining room. Good clean kitchen. Large room with sofas and TV on ground floor plus small TV room. Not luxury, but everything you need.
- Jennifer, July 2023 -
Martyn “Whilst we were not impressed with the property, we cannot say that the pictures were overly misleading - dirt on radiator in bathroom, state of floor in shower room/sauna is all visible in the photos, issue is that you don't notice it so much in the photos as you have not seen the property in person.”
Smell in the ground floor shower room was not nice, absolutely disgusting arms of sofas is not defendable or visible in the photos (can only assume photos are from when the sofas were new!). Loose floor tiles in kitchen, not visible in photos, mould and dirt growing in crockery dryer on draining board also not visible. The state of the conservatory was also below standard I would expect with the light not working there, also light up the stairs to first floor not working all the time. Outside sitting area is not really up to scratch either as BBQ hadn't been cleaned for at least 2 or 3 previous uses, seating was a picnic bench in an overgrown area of weeds on slate, not really usable in our opinions, but each to their own on that front. If I compare to other properties I have stayed in via the sykes website I can say it was of the lowest standard I have encountered. I would not recommend to friends or family due to the above nor do I think for over £2000 for a week that the standard of the property was acceptable. Would say size and location of the property was excellent and there ample off road parking.
- Martyn, July 2023 -
Ann “40th birthday all family.”
10 adults 4 children and 1 baby. We were easily accommodated, kitchen had plenty of cutlery plates etc., plenty of parking. The overall cleanliness was very very poor. One child lost a shoe. The settee near the fire was moved the dirt and rubbish underneath was disgraceful. We stripped the bedding as asked and were shocked to see the dirty stained duvets and pillows. If children are staying they need watching around the fire doors. They could take their fingers off. The sauna was not working which was disappointing, the room it was in was not nice. To be told to leave the house clean and tidy is a laugh, we cleaned it when we got there! We aren’t posh picky people either. We were not happy with our stay at Halford House and would definitely not return.
- Ann, May 2023 -
Abbygail “We were in llanberis for a running event so the size and location was perfect for a large group of us.”
Although it could have done with a big clean. Under the sofa’s we’re filthy and kitchen could definitely do with a deep clean, cleaning out cupboards and organising them and cleaning the oven each time. Sauna also didn’t work which we were all looking forward to using the sauna. Could do with a good lick of white paint and new plain decor, to keep it modern
- Abbygail, May 2023 -
Omolola “The house was in a very central location, within walking distance of the Sherpa'r bus terminal.”
There are a few buses that go to the different paths up Snowdon. Also within walking distance of the Snowdon train. It was a 15 minute drive to the supermarket. The house was perfect for a large group, the beds were comfortable, the living room struck the right balance between functional and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and everything worked well. The only negative was the sauna was not working, when we tried to turn it on it tripped the main circuit board. We did message the property owner and she came round and had a look. She got an electrician to have a look the next day but unfortunately they were not able to fix it. We also let her know a few other bits that weren't working and she got those repaired as well. She did offer us a refund due to the sauna not working, though we haven't had any confirmation on when we will receive it. All in all I would stay there again and I would recommend the property for any large groups looking for a central location to explore Snowdonia.
- Omolola, May 2023 -
Barry “The location is great with parking for 5 cars as street parking is limited.”
Driveway entrance can be tight depending on street parked cars. Accommodation coped well with 15 of us, across 5 couples/families. We had a great time, lucky with good weather.
- Barry, April 2023 -
Yvonne “Great location for walking snowdon with a large group and very close to a beautiful lake and play area for younger children.”
Lots of space over the 4 floors with fantastic size dining table. Owner really helpful getting 3 high chairs. House needs some updating as looking tired and some of the rooms damp and not very clean. Equipment in the kitchen needs replacing ie baking trays. We all had a great weekend.
- Yvonne, April 2023 -
Emma “We had a lovely stay at Halford Hill, big house spread out over 4 floors, huge dining room table for families/friends to all sit around and eat together.”
Only slight problem was some radiators in bedrooms wouldn't turn off so in some bedrooms it was quite hot overnight and some mattresses felt a little too springy and uncomfortable but overall a lovely house to get the whole family together for a mini break!
- Emma, February 2023 -
John “The one time I meet the owner I thought she was really nice and polite, but the ...”
The one time I meet the owner I thought she was really nice and polite, but the house itself needed abit of tlc,the log burner wasn't cleaned out, there was tissues under two of the beds and the carpets were worn in some of the rooms and the walls needed repainting, also the heating had a mind of its own ( hot when not needed and cold when needed),but if you want somewhere just for a base to go hill climbing in North Wales it would be fine just don't expect a 4,5 star accommodation, it's a 3 at best
- John, January 2023 -
Susie “We had a really fantastic stay in the house.”
It was very warm and welcoming thank you!! Only feedback was the little touches like no dishwasher tablets, foil, sandwich bags. However that’s really picky but thought it might be helpful. We’d love to stay again sometime thank you!
- Susie, October 2022 -
Jackie “Lovely cottage, situated right in the middle of llanberis, ideal for exploring snowdonia.”
Just the right size for 13 of us - especially the dining room where we could all sit together. Any more people would have been a bit tricky with just 2 showers, and amount of seating space in sitting room. Possibly some issue with lower ground floor shower room/sauna, as floor wet when we arrived, and remained wet - which put us off using it, as it seemed slightly grubby. On arrival there were no dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid or toilet rolls, which we wouldn’t have minded bringing if we’d been made aware, so had to purchase these locally - however, the owner did respond to my phone call and these were provided the next day.
- Jackie, July 2022 -
Gerry Anthony “The property is in an ideal location and is a large house for bigger groups.”
It is however a little tired and we had to wash the pots, pans, cups etc before we used them. The owners are really helpful and as a group we enjoyed our break.
- Gerry Anthony, June 2022 -
Lee “The property was a nice size for the group, but feel it is fairly run down, in need of a little refurbishment and modernising inside, no Wi-Fi and very basic, not a lot in terms of pubs in the area and feel £1000 a night is very excessive for this property/location.”
- Lee, June 2022 -
Jane “Very comfortable accommodation for our family and friends group of 12 adults and 2 children.”
- Jane, April 2022 -
Delyth “Had a wonderful mini break here.”
Property was ideal base for exploring. The house was very clean and tidy, rooms were spread out so you weren't on top of each other. Will definitely be back for another visit.
- Delyth, April 2022 -
Jack “Decent place and location, host was easy to contact and very nice, all in all top place to stay.”
- Jack, March 2022 -
Thomas “Great house in a great location.”
So nice to have the long table so we could all eat together. The sauna was great too. All in all a cracking weekend in a great house.
- Thomas, January 2022 -
Christine “WE ARRIVED AT COTTAGE TO FIND THAT THE CENTRAL HEATING WAS BROKEN.”
LADY TOLD US IT HAD ONLY BROKEN THE DAY BEFORE. HOUSE WAS FREEZING AND WE FEEL IT HAD NOT HAD HEATING ON FOR A GOOD WHILE. LADY DID PROVIDE ELECTRIC HEATERS AND EXTRA WOOD AND COAL AND AFTER FEW HOURS HOUSE WAS WARM. THE HOUSE HAD DEFINELTLY NOT BEEN CLEANED . THE FIRE WAS STILL FULL OF ASHES. CARPET HAD NOT BEEN HOOVERED. UNDER ONE BED THERE WAS CUP CAKE WRAPPERS. KITCHEN WAS CLEAN AND EXCELLENT CROCKERY AND FACILITIES. BEDDING WAS CLEAN ALSO. BATHROOMS IN DESPERATE NEED OF AN UPDATE.. BATH WAS NICE BUT SHOWERS WERE ELECTRIC AND HARDLY DISPERSED ANY WATER.. THE WATER WAS NICE AND HOT THOUGH. LOCATION OF PROPERTY WAS EXCELLENT. WE FEEL SURE THAT THIS PROPERTY HAD NOT BEEN USED FOR SOME TIME.

It was ideally situated for all the local attractions. Loved the sauna.
- Julie, August 2021 -
Manu “Nice relaxing holiday, age related issues to house.”
some of the equipments such as washing machine and DVD system were not working properly. but the landlady offered laundry service for us. rectified a concern arises during the stay very quickly and effectively. 5 stars for that. location is very ideal and near to most of snowdonia attractions including Snowdon railway walking distance.
- Manu, September 2020 -
Deb “The property was perfectly placed in the village.”
The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and in honesty there was more than expected. The sauna was a godsend and everyone in the party used it over the weekend to recover from the treks up the mountain. This absolutely satisfied the requirements for out party.
- Deb, September 2020 -
Howard “Nice big clean house in a super location in the village of Llanberis.”
Had everything we needed plus a sauna ! Huge dining table, and lots of seating in the basement lounge area. Very helpful owners, and within a few minutes walk of the local pubs restaurants and takeaways. Good base for climbing Snowdon, paddling on the lake and exploring the local area. We had a very enjoyable 4 night stay for 9 of us.
- Howard, August 2020 -
Rawa “We loved the experience and the area is amazing couldnt have asked for a better situated property.”
The property is dated and its spread across four floors. All the beds creak and so do all the staircases. The day after we arrived the was no hot water in two out of three bathroom. The ine that worked was on the top floor and was a bath which made it more difficult for my elderly parents to reach. It took a long time to fix the issue and only one of the showers were fixed. We had kids with us and felt like we should have been reinbursed as it was not our fault but we were not.
- Rawa, July 2020 -
Vijay “May not be like a 5* hotel but very very clean and in the heart of snowdonia.”
Excellent accommodation for larger family. Very approachable caretaker and was always available when called. Thank you. Will certainly stay again.
- Vijay, July 2020 -
Colin “This is an excellent cottage for larger family or group holidays.”
It is clean, warm, comfortable and practical. Great location.
- Colin, January 2020 -
Coral “As a family we had an enjoyable stay at Halford Hill, however the middle bathroom is showing signs of a busy season, the toilet seat was broken and the shower very inefficient, however this didn’t prove too much of an inconvenience!”
!!
- Coral, September 2019 -
Susan “Stayed for a long weekend, 13 of us.”
House was bigger than we thought, ample parking for 4 cars. Cot available for the youngest. Dining room is brilliant we all enjoyed being able to sit together for the meals we had there. Location fantastic were able to walk everywhere we wanted so didn’t need to use the cars. Array of places to eat within walking distance and lake only a 5 minute walk away
- Susan, September 2019 -
Janice “We loved the location of the house it is perfect, the lounge ,kitchen dining room and bedrooms all lovely.”
The bathrooms were not good, showers overflowing as water could not get away as drains blocked, and needed a good clean, and updating.
- Janice, August 2019 -
Sarah “We could not fault the house it offered us all we need and we have book it again ...”
We could not fault the house it offered us all we need and we have book it again for next year and everything is in walking distance from the shops and restaurants and pubs
- Sarah, July 2019 -
Rachael “The house was spacious enough for all of us - 11 adults, 5 children and 3 dogs.”
The kitchen was fully equipped - there was plenty of cutlery, utensils and pots/pans. The bedrooms were roomy and provided plenty of storage space. The downstairs shower was the one that was used the most as the shower on the 1st floor tended just to trickle. We experienced no issues with the hot water. The downstairs sitting room was large enough to seat everyone, with the added bonus of the snug room. The log fire was a welcome addition, particularly after a brisk walk around the lake. The location of the house itself is great. Situated on the main high street, it is close by to all amenities, the lake and Mount Snowdon. The property was a little tired and dated in places and would benefit from a lick of paint. We experienced an issue with the shower door in the downstairs bathroom, but this was quickly rectified after a phone call to the owner, Lesley. The outside seating area could also do with a tidy up. Tshe bins located under the front steps were full when we arrived and the floor under here was full of cigarette ends. Aside from the minor issues, we had a wonderful extended weekend break and would definitely book to stay here again.
- Rachael, May 2019 -
Simon “This was a great location and a great house for a big group.”
My only comment is that it’s a bit tired in places and could do with a bit of attention. However the 12 of us all agreed would would like to come back again.
- Simon, April 2019 -
Morwen “Fantastic place.”
Had a great weekend.
- Morwen, February 2019 -
Martin “Had a brilliant stay, 12 of us stayed including 5 children and we had 2 dogs as well, plenty of space for us all.”
The owners left some bara brith and made sure we had enough wood for the log burner too.
- Martin, December 2018 -
Sarah “Brilliant holiday had by all our family, plenty of room in the property and in a fantastic location too!”
- Sarah, November 2018 -
Therese “There is no hot water in the house.”
The heating is set which is fine we just turned the radiators off that we didn't want on at the radiator but there was no way of getting hot water as you can't adjust the boiler, you will have to contact the owners or caretaker. We went white water rafting and everyone got a hot shower there. There is an electric shower on the second floor which gets hot but doing dishes etc it was boil the kettle. Apart from the water we all loved the place and would return but would get the water sorted
- Therese, October 2018 -
Tom “Loved the house was a great location for what we needed it for booked again for next year:)”
- Tom, August 2018 -
Michael “It advertised barbeque and sitting area this was overgrown and not usable.”
the front access is also not like the photo and overgrown and not usable but the location and size of property is what sells this house. The house is not top notch but very usable
- Michael, July 2018 -
Linda “Fantastic and versatile space.”
Perfect for our family gathering. Well equipped and layout worked brilliantly. Perfectly located for all local attractions.
- Linda, May 2018 -
Helen “Fantastic location in Llanberis, and great for a large group.”
Just a couple of small niggles, the TV in the small lounge wasn't working, we tried all the remotes! Shower on the top floor attached to the bath was either hot or cold so wasn't easy to wash in comfort.
- Helen, April 2018 -
Anita “Lovely Big house very comfortable but when we arrived the central heating was broke and its was freezing with it being January.”
The owners were very good got a plumber out but it couldnt be fixed that night so they supplied heaters but with the house being so big it was still really cold. Fortunatley the plumber came back late the next afternoon and fixed it. so we enjoyed the rest of the stay. Owners Simon and Lesley were very apologetic and helped resolve the situation as quickly as possible. Lovely house lovely location and we hope to return again soon
- Anita, January 2018 -
Tracey “Fantastic location.”
Great for large parties, plenty of bedrooms and large communal spaces. Minor niggle- no bath towels provided. All in all an excellent property.
- Tracey, November 2016 -
Andy “We spent 3 days at Halford Hill with some friends and plenty of kids.”
The house never felt cramped, was always nice and warm and had plenty of room for the whole group. Would definitely come back if ever in the Llanberis area.

House was a great size for a large party and had everything we needed to manage feeding everyone. Sauna was a great warm down after a long hike up the mountain. Having free bara brith was great. The landlady was super understanding when our over active puppy chewed the door frame! Thanks so much :)

About the location
LLANBERIS
Caernarfon 7 miles; Bangor 10 miles; Betws-y-Coed 17 miles.
Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. In fact, Llanberis is something of a mecca for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in England and Wales. The ascent can be made either by train via the Snowdon Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Each year, major racing events attract thousands to the area: The fast Snowdon Race to the summit, held in July every year, a triathlon known as the world's toughest, and The Snowdonia Marathon, held in October - a gruelling 26-mile course that starts and finishes in Llanberis, circumnavigating the Snowdon Massif. The area is also popular for mountain biking, open water swimming and stand up paddle boarding. Within Llanberis itself there are excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 7 miles from Llanberis on the coast is Caernarfon with its magnificent castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn, Plas Newydd and Bodnant Gardens.
