“Negatives: 1.”

No Fire Starter Pack ( not behind a door, not in the wicker basket not anywhere 2: No 1 Black Rubbish Bag To Be Seen Anywhere 3. Microwave Inside dirty big spats from tomatoes sauce and other sorts! 4. Not Clean, Kitchen Cutlery Tray Dirty You have to wash everything before use. Floors dirty. Under Wooden Bed Full Of Dust And Dog Hairs. It’s lovely to allow dogs but there needs to be vacuumed after stays. Also There Was (Probably Still Is, As I Read Another Review Mentioning This) A ...

Shower is really tricky We couldn’t get it nice and warm, and the minute you try to move the button to try to get it warmer it goes ice cold instead. 6. Front Of The Cottage Is Very Muddy It’s Very Tricky To Try To Get Passed It. It Could Do With A Proper Path (Slate In Abundance :). An A Pretty Gate Or Give It A Paint Positive Points: 1. Gorgeous Old Cottage, It Has So Much Potentia, The Cottage Oozes Character. I especially Loved The Upstairs Super Cosy, No Problem Falling Asleep After A Long Sight Seeing Day and Sitting By The Fire (Once We Got The Wood :)) With A Nice Glass Of Red 2. The Owner Is Busy Making A Patio Next To The Cottage, Which Will Be Lovely In Summertime To Sit And Sip A Glass Of Wine :) 3. The Steam Train Railway Right In Front. It Was Delightful To See The Steam Train Going Passed a Few Times And Waving To Each Other :) 4. The Location Is Ideal! Close To The ZipLine Slate Mine Where We Had Booked, And Many Other Sight Seeing Places, Lots To Do And See. Once The Negatives Are Sufficiently Addressed (Change Cleaner!:) It Would Be Perfect

Sorry to hear that the cleaning was not up to standard. The standard of cleaning is usually excellent, so this is concerning. I have spoken to the cleaning company, and explained the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness for every visit. They have agreed to ensure that cleaning will be of a consistently excellent standard from now on. They have also agreed to inform me if they cannot supply a starter pack for the fire, for whatever reason. I visited the house last weekend and cleaned the house thoroughly. I found the shower to be working perfectly, as usual. Indeed, all of the electrical appliances are under a year old, and also work perfectly. I have made changes to the kitchen to make it easier to clean, and have also removed the items from under the beds to improve ease of cleaning. The path in front of the house is clean and tidy, and there is very little mud on the path leading up to the house. Property Owner

“We enjoyed the stay at the cottage and appreciated the heating was on when we arrived.”

A couple of items to mention....the rocking chair seat was already broken when we arrived....it needs more substantial work on it to make it useable. The little hot water cistern in the bathroom doesn't give any useful amount of hot water and the dial needs a very hard turn to get to OFF, We took plenty of wood for the stove and games, and found lots a good uphill walks from Blaenau. Zip World was an extra treat.

“Great cottage, is exactly what it says on the tin.”

We had a traditional, rustic Welsh getaway that we throughly enjoyed. It is in a great location, surrounded by history and nature. We would of loved to have had a little history about the cottage and perhaps a little bit more comfort in the living room(bigger sofa or cushions) but other than that, we had a great time! Thankyou so much.

We are currently improving the patio by the kitchen, ready for the spring. We actually included some information about the house in the welcome pack but unfortunately it has gone missing. while the beds are had these can be easily rectified with a mattress topper. The kitchen cupboards need to have a curtain to cover them to help reduce the dust that settles on everything as everything you use something you need to wash it first (even if you have used and washed the night before. If i could rate this a a 3.5 I would but it wont allow me to xx Location is perfect and when the train is running it would be amazing to sit out and watch it go by xx would love to return in a year to eighteen months time to see the changes xx

“Loved this stay, lovely traditional Welsh cottage and just as described and expected.”

Only negative is the wooden double bed could do with replacing as base is precarious. Also no starter pack left for the log burner but we did take our own log packs. Lovely villages either side of the property within easy walking distance. Have booked for a full week next year.

Sorry you did not find the starter pack for the log burner. I have checked with the cleaner who explained that it was behind the door in the living room. “We booked a week over Christmas with our dog.”

Could only stay 3 days. Really nice area, in the mountains, secluded but close to everything you'll need for your stay. That's the good. Now for the bad. There really is no parking, so prepare for a pretty long walk from car to house. The actual location of the house is really really bad, and yes you have to cross a railway to enter the property. Luckily it wasn't running in the winter. Then theres the mud, puddles and rubbish that greeted us as we first arrived at the property. Generally the garden and outside areas have been left to rot and not been maintained. Also our springer spaniel did escape the garden, and the key safe is held together with tape. The inside on arrival was so cold no coats were removed for a very long time. Every room had its own electric radiator and all of them were turned on immediately. There is also a wood burner in the living room. But this is the biggest problem with the property. It's impossible to warm up the downstairs. Upstairs was lovely and toasty, but every room downstairs was constantly ice cold. We did receive a wood starter kit that burnt for maybe a hour before needing to buy more. Even with the log burner going it never warmed up to a comfortable level. The kitchen was dirty and didnt have anything to make food. Everything needs to be washed before use theres no enclosed drawers or cupboards so everything just sots in the open to collect dust and insects. Also there isnt really anything more than a few cups, cutlery and a few saucepans. So make sure you pack a few things. Barthroom was really nice, warmest room in the house and everything worked as it should. Although incredibly dangerous as the stairs go half way through the bathroom door. The bed also needs repairing or replacing. Theres a dip in the middle thats so large its noticeable with the naked eye. Its like sleeping in a hamuk. There is no wifi or tv which is stated and missed by ourselves at the time of booking. We did find a few games hidden away in a cupboard. Higly recommend burning them as they are mouldy and stink. Overall the property has so much potential but lacks the care and attention it deserves. If the owners tried to make it a home instead of an abandoned house i would highly recommend. I am writing this in the hope of positive changes not as a complaint.

Thanks for the feedback. This is the first year of letting, so we are in the process of improving the cottage. Both the interior of the house and the garden will be improved as resources and time allow. The garden is being managed as a sanctuary for wildlife, and will be cared for using organic methods which prioritise existing wildlife. There is ample parking around 100 meters away, and loading and unloading is possible by parking temporarily on the pavement. We are very lucky to be so close to the narrow gauge railway. This is a huge asset for the house, and most guests will be thrilled to see the steam trains go by. They are slow moving and the pedestrian crossing is safe. Waste and recycling should of course by collected regularly, and I will chase up the council if this is not collected for whatever reason. I have asked the cleaner to notify me whenever it is not collected. As for the downstairs being cold. I can take a little to warm up in the middle of winter if the house has been empty for a few days. This is mainly down to the original slate flooring, and thick stone walls. The house is very well insulated and has new double glazing which helps to keep the house warm. I can assure you, I have never been cold in the house, after warming it up. However, I will leave another radiator in the living room, which may help for the coldest days. This will be done ASAP. We are continuing to add items to the kitchen, including wine classes and cutlery. It appears that a few items have been broken over recent visits. The kitchen should of course be clean, and is cleaned and checked for each visit. The kitchen unit will be modernised in due course, but will be clean and serviceable for every visit. I was not aware of the problem with the dining table and coffee table. I will visit the house ASAP to fix or replace these items. Property Owner

“Very nice little cottage.”

I went at the start of December for a little weekend away to escape from the city for a while. This place helped me do that. There is no internet or TV which meant I was disconnected, and whilst my friends had signal of their phones I did not on mine, so I was able to totally disconnect. Was cold when we first arrived, however soon heated up with the radiators on and the log burner going. The near by high street is only a 5-10 minute walk and you can get all your essentials from Morrisons and Co-op, all the other local shops and takeaways are cash only but there are some cash machines in town. Overall I enjoyed my little get away, if your into the Zip wire activities there is one a 5 minute drive away and the others are further along the one A road, so easy access for anyone who wants a base camp for them too!

Unfortunately, the cleaner was not aware of this visit, and therefore did not clean before the guest arrived. This is of course very regrettable. As soon as I heard there was a problem, I arranged for a cleaner to come to the house immediately. However the guest decided to leave before I had a chance to fix the problem. I nevertheless issued a full refund. As a result of this unfortunate miscommunication with the cleaner, we have implemented a new system of email and text notification for every visit, so this sort of problem will not happen again. The cottage borders the Ffestiniog narrow gauge steam railway, which is a great asset which most visitors absolutely love. The garden is secure, so please don't let this put you off visiting. You can also access the house without using the pedestrian crossing if you prefer. Property Owner

“We stayed at this cottage for a week.”

. It was amazing.. This is our third visit to the area and we loved our stay in this cottage.. It has a log burner that made it feel really cosy and watching the steam trains on the narrow gauge railway chug past you at the bottom of the garden was great.. This cottage has not been over modernised so you get a real feel of an authentic quirky home.. The beds were very comfy with fluffy pillows and nice duvets... The large chest of draws on the landing was big enough for all your clothing needs... The kitchen is basic but the small fridge freezer is enough for a weeks stay.. There is a need for a few bit of kitchen equipment...a roasting tin, spatula, strainer spoon etc... But l know the owners say "it's a work in progress" and when it's done it's going to be ideal for family's, hikers and cyclists (there's a large space in the back corner of the living room to store bikes) We visited with our dog and the garden is secure enough to let them out for a good run around and sniff... I highly recommend this cottage.. We will be back next year..

The fascinating old slate town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is situated in a superb position for exploring the Snowdonia National Park. There is a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat. The main local attractions include Zip World Slate caverns, the longest zip line in Europe and fastest in the world, this is a great underground adventure. The slate mines now hold the prestigious status of a world heritage site, awarded by UNESCO and visitors can take enthralling underground trips there to see mining as it was done in days gone by. The famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog mountain railway also runs for 13 miles through the Snowdonia National Park to the harbour town of Porthmadog.
