About the location

GLANWYDDEN

Llandudno 3 miles; Conwy 4 miles.

Glanwydden is an idyllic country village, which lies between the beautiful coastline and scenic countryside of North Wales. This tranquil village could be described as the ultimate retreat, perfect for exploring the dramatic scenery, walking the unspoilt sandy beaches or visiting the historic castles, churches and gardens of the area. The village was visited in 1824 by Charles Darwin and he called it the Butterfly Valley for its abundant insects and wildflowers. Across a field with a footpath from the heart of the village is Bryn Pydew Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) with at least 22 species of butterflies and fireflies recorded flitting amongst the limestone loving wildflowers. There are many gentle and more demanding walks along the valley through the Ancient Woodland that has remained unchanged for hundreds of years. Just 3 miles away is the famous Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno, which offers two superb beaches, excellent shops, pubs and restaurants, the Venue Cymru theatre, a popular dry-ski slope and wonderful views from the summit of the 679' high Great Orme, reached by either the Great Orme Tramway or an exciting cable car ride of over a mile. The town of Conwy - a designated World Heritage Site - is also nearby. A true medieval gem, Conwy is dominated by a splendid castle and completely enclosed by its well-preserved town walls and is known for its unique independent shops. Discover miles of sandy beaches along the North Wales coast and excellent walking in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park just 20 minutes' drive away. Fantastic golfing opportunities are available within 15 minutes drive at Maesdu Golf Course, North Wales Golf Course in Llandudno, a championship course at Conwy and Rhos-on-Sea. With good fishing and bird watching opportunities nearby there is plenty to see and do all year round. For the more adventurous visit Surf Snowdonia, Zip World and Bounce Below which are all fantastic facilities within easy reach.
