The property

Llanrug 4.3 miles.

Ty Mawr is a fantastic holiday cottage resting in Dinorwic.

An elevated position with far reaching views to the sea, Anglesey and on a clear day Ireland.

Facing the west the sunsets are fantastic with lots of evening light.

Boasting an enviable location just a stone’s throw from Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, inside the Dinorwig Slate World Heritage Site.

It features a bright and welcoming living space adorned with characterful, exposed beams and trees.

Four beautifully appointed bedrooms, perfect for families or friends looking to enjoy a beautiful location and explore all that North Wales has to offer.

Begin your getaway by parking in one of three off-road parking spaces, then step into the heart of the home, where you can unwind in the welcoming sitting room on the corner sofa in front of the TV and the soothing glow of the woodburning stove.

Later, head into the fully equipped kitchen to help prepare a delicious meal for the group to enjoy around the spacious dining table; if the weather permits, why not enjoy a spot of alfresco dining on the patio?

Here, you can savour the meal and the spectacular views before raising a glass to your getaway and admiring the sunset over Gwynedd.

When the sky darkens, step back inside to wash off the day in either the ground-floor shower room or the family bathroom on the first floor, before catching up on some well-earned sleep in one of four bedrooms.

Choose between a single on the ground floor, two doubles, and a further single on the first floor; in the morning, your adventure really begins.

Stock up on all your self-catering essentials in the nearby village of Llanrug, and perhaps even enjoy a night away from the kitchen with a tasty meal at Y Glyntwrog Inn.

The castle town of Caernarfon is not too far for a bigger shop and some wonderful sites and places to eat and drink.

There are endless things to do from Ty Mawr: head to Llanberis or Llyn Padarn for beautiful walks around the lake, or take to the water on kayaks and paddleboards; you can even enjoy a spot of open water swimming while you’re there; Snowdonia Watersports offers equipment hire for those interested.

If you’d rather spend your time walking, then you’re in luck, as Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is within reach, as is the station where you can take the train to the summit.

Other nearby, must-visit attractions include Zip World at Penrhyn Quarry, the National Slate Museum, and Dolbadarn Castle.

About the location

DINORWIG

Llanberis 5.4 miles; Caernarfon 9.2 miles; Bangor 9.5 miles.

Llanrug is a small village with two pubs, two shops, a Post Office, a hotel with indoor swimming pool and fitness room, and a 9 hole golf course is nearby. The village is situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, only 3 miles from famous Llanberis. Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris, and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. Llanberis is something of a 'mecca' for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales. The ascent can be made either by train, on the Snowdonia Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Llanberis boasts excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 4 miles from Llanrug, on the coast, is Caernarfon with its magnificent 13th century castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn and Plas Newydd and many wonderful beaches.
