“My family and I had a fantastic stay at the cottage.”

The owners are friendly and helpful and the views are amazing! The kids really enjoyed exploring and viewing the local wildlife. The cottage had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable for the 6 of us. We would love to stay again! Diolch yn fawr Rhian!

“The cottage is in a really beautiful location and is perfect for visiting north Wales.”

Our son had a great time exploring all around the cottage and watching the farmer at work! The cottage is spacious and had everything that we needed and as the weather was lovely we managed to eat most of our meals outside admiring the view! Thanks Rhian for a great stay!

“The cottage was adequate but the lounge furniture was scruffy and uncomfortable,the shower head in main bathroom was mouldy and we had to clean it before using,overall the cottage could do with a deep clean,the location was perfect for us,very remote with great views.”

Having let the cottage for over 20years the cottage has been cleaned to the highest standard as most of the review scores are 100%. It is graded by The Tourist Board and has always achieved the highest score for cleanliness. The sitting rooms has two matching leather settees and two Welsh oak coffee table. “An amazing stay at Bwthyn Fed’wr Gog!”

We are a family of 6 with a small dog, there was so much space for all of us. The cottage was warm and cozy with the log burner as a lovely addition with unlimited logs. The scenery was breathtaking, the perfect county retreat. It was so peaceful and quiet. Rhian was the perfect host, contacting us before traveling and while we were there to make sure everything was ok. We hadn’t been to North Wales for a long time the cottage was very central to all the places we wanted to visit. Barmouth, Anglesey, Llandudno and Liverpool! The children loved having the sheep and lambs on their doorstep. The farmer was lovely too. We were so happy here and made lots of precious memories. We would recommend this cottage to anyone and cannot wait to return.

“We had a lovely stay.”

The cottage is at a beautiful location at the top of the hill with beautiful surroundings. The owner was in touch before, during and after our holidays, which was a nice touch. The house had everything we needed, maybe with exception of a dishwasher. The beds were very comfy. There was a dog friendly pub which was just a short walk away. Plenty of walks in surrounding areas and biking tracks, too. There were a few nearby fields, all fenced off, where we took our dog to have a run around, and there were cows and sheep that we could go and visit too next to the fields, which was great for the kids. We would not hesitate to go back to this cottage, and would recommend to anyone.

“Booked as a last minute getaway before the school holidays ended.”

We have never been to North Wales before, and Bwthyn Fed'wr Gog was well placed for exploring the area. Rhian was a lovely, welcoming host - checking all was well and responding promptly to all queries. The cottage was lovely - set in a peaceful location, spacious and in good condition with everything we needed. We hope to return in the future, as a 4 night stay wasn't long enough!

“The cottage was certainly adequate for our stay during a very hot week in August.”

The track to the cottage is bumpier than I'd imagined but not an issue if driving slowly. A property folder was available but there was no information on some basics, like the location of the washing line and clothes pegs, and the recycling instructions on the sticker on the fence were not adequate. However, communication with the owner was good.

“The cottage was a lovely traditional Welsh cottage at the end of a gated track.”

It was a perfect hideaway from the outside world. The cottage was comfortable and cozy. The woodburning stove in the living room was lovely, especially as the weather turned colder the day we arrived. The master bedroom was lovely too and the large bed really comfortable. The views across the valley were beautiful and the owner made sure everything was in order.

“The cottage was lovely, in a great location.”

It was clean, well stocked with kitchen equipment and with plenty of room. We were only 4 people, but there is room for 6. The handover process was simple. As the weather was not great, we had a fire most nights, and there was plenty of wood available for use. The process with Sykes was not great, including being chased for payment when I had already set up automatic payment.

The property

This cosy farmhouse sits in an elevated position, just 1.5 miles from the village of Maerdy and boasts far-reaching views across the valley.

Surrounded by 150 acres of farmland and close to the bustling market town of Bala and the hugely popular Llyn Tegid, this cottage is a perfect base for families or friends looking for peace and quiet after a day full of activities.

Set over two floors, there are two comfortable bedrooms on a split-level first floor, and two bathrooms, including one with a separate shower for added convenience.

Downstairs, there is a family room with three single beds, a well-equipped, compact kitchen leading to a dining area and also a welcoming sitting room with comfy seating; the perfect place to sit down and relax, in front of the woodburner, with a hot cup of tea.

Outside, you can sit on the small patio and enjoy the views or perhaps take a walk across the local farmland.

Bala is just eight miles away and opens up a wealth of activities and days out.

There is so much to do, just around the formidable Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), that dominates the local landscape, with all the watersports and walking trails, or perhaps enjoy the views and a game of golf, an upland 10 hole course 1000 feet above sea level.

The area is peppered with lakes and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, rivers and waterfalls.

Why not visit Pistyll Rhaeadr, the awe-inspiring 80m single-drop waterfall, or marvel at the industrial ingenuity of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and the breathtaking views?

The area is perfect for outdoor activities with a fabulous selection available locally, such as whitewater rafting at the National Whitewater Centre, watersports, fishing, cycling, walking trails, as well as being a short drive from the Snowdonia National Park and all it has to offer.

Slightly further afield, why not take a day trip and explore local National Trust properties, such as Ysbyty Ifan Estate or Ty Mawr Wybrnant, the latter being close to the stunning Swallow Falls and pretty mountain village of Betws-y-Coed?

Guests can also take the opportunity to scale the peaks of Snowdon, either by foot or perhaps by taking advantage of the mountain railway in Llanberis.

This is a perfect base for families or friends to experience the tranquillity of rural Wales, yet still being spoilt for choice with fantastic local days out and the opportunity to explore the fantastic and diverse landscapes of North Wales.

The bustling market town of Bala lies within the beautiful Snowdonia National Park and is located at the head of Llyn Tegid, Bala’s famous lake, which is the largest natural lake in Wales and home to a unique fish called the Gwyniad, a relic of the Ice Age. Renowned as a centre for great watersports including fishing, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and whitewater rafting, Bala is also the headquarters of the narrow gauge Bala Lake Railway. The town itself is steeped in history and has a range of interesting shops, inns and restaurants, and an historical Town Walk. Surrounded by the wonderful Berwyn Mountains on one side and the beautiful Snowdonia Mountain Range on the other, this is a mecca for climbing, walking, mountain biking and many other outdoor activities. An ideal location for touring all of North and Mid Wales including the stunning Cambrian Bay Coast with the six-mile long Harlech Beach, overlooked by its majestic medieval castle.
