We turned up excited for our stay our holiday and rest was needed . When we opened front door we knew that we wouldn’t be staying. The house had a very bad smell of damp and urine . We went in to look and there was damp on wall soon as u entered property. The wooden floors were stained and rugs well they were fit for bin . We further investigated upstairs there was no proper handrails only a rope to get up . If you have a disability then this is a big problem nowhere in the description of let did it say not suitable for disabled persons. The stair treads were cracked and ready to split . Going out to the rear of property you have to descend into a basement area which the smell was absolutely disgusting. It was damp and mouldy on walls . Looked really spooky . Wouldn’t really want to be letting my dog out late at night down there as there’s no front garden . As you can see it wasn’t great it was that bad we didn’t stay 1 NIGHT we went straight home very disappointed . We rang Skye’s and told them hoping they as the letting agent would assist .NO THEY DIDNT they said contact OWNER we paid £600 to SYKES SO THEY SHOULD SORT IT !!! The owner then said we should of stayed to give them time to rectify the PROBLEMS!!! We don’t want to stay on HOLIDAY when people are coming in deep cleaning or changing rugs or painting damp walls or fixing stairs !! I HOPE PEOPLE SEE THIS AS RIGHT AND THAT AM NOT BEING UNREASONABLE TO STAY IN A HOUSE THAT NEEDED REPAIR !!! After speaking to the cleaner/OWNER THEY INFORMED ME THEY HAVE SHUT THE HOUSE DOWN FOR S MONTH TO SORT THE ISSUES OUT AS ITS BEEN A LONG YEAR OF LETTINGS

We're sorry and puzzled to read this - Plas Mor obviously didn't suit your needs, which we understand from the housekeeper had changed recently. We're sad you chose not to stay to enjoy the house and its location, with its beautiful views and beach access, to which many guests return year on year. We went to the house on 17th for planned 'end of season' maintenance and on entry found no unusual smells, nor the damp patches on the walls that you mention. It is a mid-19th century house with some original features, including the wooden, but sound, lower staircase and flooring, The rope hand rail you found unsuitable is clearly visible in the photographs on the website, and there is advice on the website that some with mobility problems may find the lower stairs into the garden awkward. Since your visit we have asked Sykes to clarify this further in their advisory note. The lower floor is used for storage – being so close to the water's edge it can feel damp in colder weather. It is however used by guests and their dogs for access to the grassed rear garden and to the beach. Regarding Sykes, they act as agents for us and I'm sure will have advised you of their policies. Sykes say they did not tell you to contact us, the owners, and did not give you our contact details. Contrary to your assertion, this is the first time we've either spoken to you or contacted you. We were however concerned to hear from the housekeeper that you rang her once you got home and that in a lengthy call were rude and disrespectful to her. She was quite upset by this. In the past, on the few occasions when there have been any changes to guests' plans for whatever reason, or issues with the house, these have nearly always been accommodated or settled satisfactorily and amicably. We're sorry this was not possible for you, and hope you find somewhere more to your liking in the future. Property Owner

About the location

BORTH-Y-GEST

Porthmadog 1.2 miles; Criccieth 6 miles.

Borth-y-Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen. Borth-y-Gest, with its sheltered coves and sandy beaches, has walking in abundance; why not head up Moel-y-Gest or take a wander over the headland to the famous Black Rock Sands, or go a little further afield where the vast Snowdonia National Park awaits? For a day out you can take a trip on the famous Ffestiniog Steam Railway and Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog, only a 15 minutes' walk away, or for those with younger children why not visit the shorter but more child-focussed Welsh Highland Heritage Railway? For a day trip the entire Llyn Peninsula calls. With Anglesey within reach and the whole North Wales coast with the Wales Coast Path to be explored, Borth-y-Gest has it all: a quiet bolt hole but conveniently located for ease of access to this stunning area, a must at any time of the year.
