Was great for our family of four. We loved sitting in the seating area of the master bedroom looking at the view. The only thing we'd have liked to have had is a washing machine, but I'm not sure one would fit anywhere and we managed without. Thank you!

“I was really looking forward to the break over Christmas, but was disappointed.”

Firstly, no welcome pack, not even a pint of milk to make a hot drink on arrival. Secondly, the heating instructions were straight forward, except they did not work as given. I found the boiler, one I was familiar with, the heat settings were so low that at this time of year would have been useless. I reset everything and the the instructions were able to work. So went to make a hot drink and found that the kettle was leaking onto the base - not safe! Use a saucepan initially. Still decided to unpack, in the master bedroom there is shown 3 wardrobes / storage areas which all had locks. Only one was open for us to use, inside was an ironing board and extra bedding which meant at a push only one person could use it - not happy. I contacted the owner to advise of the kettle issue, owner eventually allowed us to purchase a new one on her behalf as there was no way she could replace it until after Christmas. I also enquired about the wardrobes, to be told that the others were full with laundry and cleaning products - there is no mention of this in your information. Then I was told that there was additional space in the other room that we should use. This was occupied by a female and would not have been a satisfactory arrangement. So once all these issues became apparent it coloured our view of the property so that all little irritants became even more noticeable including the condensation on the windows, which spoiled the outlook and had been mentioned by others. We had checked the visitors book, and most people appeared to be happy, but there was one entry that was critical, which is OK, but wrote PTO and the end of some comments - I did - only to find that a page appeared to have been removed? The area as always was fine and in general we enjoyed our activities, we also passed on an issue caused by the storm which swept through the are Wed/Thur and advised she got her property maintenance people to check it out as water gained access to the roof. Basically, the property needs TLC to get it up to standard, but I will not be considering it for further use. It has also coloured my view of using Sykes in the future, we'll have to see as I have not had this type of experience before.

Thanks for your feedback and I am sorry to hear you were not as happy as others have been. I feel that I acted as soon as I could re the kettle - it was Christmas Eve, after all, and difficult to procure an Amazon delivery over that time period. There is a large wardrobe for use in both bedrooms - and a large chest of drawers in one - space has never been an issue before. Condensation has always been an issue in these homes - but with prudent use of opening a window fractionally when cooking, and turning on the air vent above the cooker, and also wiping down any early morning condensation that occurs, is never an overriding issue. We have just spent time at the property doing maintenance and it really is looking well loved for the season ahead. Our builders found that there was no issue with the roof. And no, we would never remove any pages from the visitors’ book - just not the way we are. Over the past ten or so years, there have been occasional negative comments made alongside many many positive ones - both are welcome to help us provide guests with a happy holiday experience! “Lovely house in a good location.”

Nice big living room and master bedroom. Twin room was adequate size too. Bathroom with bath and shower. Plus downstairs toilet. Everything we needed for our stay. Stunning views - spent most evenings just looking at the tide come in and out! There was even a nice looking cafe a few doors up and a restaurant a few doors down. (Didn't visit in the end but looked lovely). Managed to park on the road every day, it was busy some days to parked further away, but never more than a 30 second walk!

It is a really lovely cottage with very spacious sleeping and living areas and everything is in very good order and is very clean. The location is lovely and we would happily stay in the cottage again. The communication in advance with the owner was clear and friendly and there was ample information available in the property to make the stay simple. I would say that the garden could do with some maintenance - it is rather overgrown and unkempt, which made it quite difficult to enjoy as an outside space. Also, there is quite the regime of bins and collection days and locations. We arrived Sunday evening in the dark and rain and immediately had to start putting bins out in the road and down the back alley. People with mobility issues might easily be able to use the narrow stone stairs up from the street for regular entry\exit but be quite unable to carry heavy bins up and down. I would suggest the caretaker managing this would be far better.

“Absolutely delightful place to stay with the most amazing views.”

Usually on an internet booking site the photos are better than the reality but this was the opposite, the photos do not do this place justice. It’s very cosy and tranquil and only a 15 min walk into Porthmadog if you use the footpath at the opposite end of the bay. We will definitely be back.

“The holiday was great (with fabulous weather) and the cottage was lovely.”

There were a few things that would have made it greater, bearing in mind the standard/cost of the house: No washing machine or dish washer; No oven gloves provided - we had to buy some; The microwave was rather inconsistent In heat levels and a not too recent model. Overall though it was well equipped in general and very enjoyable, together with an excellent position/views etc.

“First impressions were very good.”

Light, bright living room and spacious main bedroom which had lovely views. Towels and bed linen were spotlessly clean. Second impression weren't as good. There were dusty cobwebs hanging from the living room ceiling. We thought about having a Sunday roast but found that the oven and roasting dishes etc. would have needed a thorough clean before we could use them - not something we wanted to spend our holiday doing. The look of the kitchen was spoiled by the fridge with the rusty door which didn't close properly without giving it a good push. The rotary drier in the garden was broken and the scatter cushions in the living room were grubby. The main bedroom was very big but the bed was very small for two adults. Overall we thought the house was pleasant, spoiled only by a few things that could be easily remedied. Eating out wasn't a problem although we had to travel a distance to find a variety of menu options - the only local place was small and very popular and was usually fully booked.

“Warm and welcoming cottage.”

I was very content here. Loved the early mornings when all was quiet and the sun streams in the very large windows to the front. The view from the bedroom....even while sitting in bed! was beautiful. If the village got busy...which it does, theres a pleasant terraced garden, (up steep steps) thats quiet, private and sunny. So you have it all!

It contained everything I could possibly have needed The beach walks are absolutely stunning, surrounded by sea on one side and mountains on the other. You have access to shops and other amenities within walking distance I had the comfort of a cosy cottage and nature on my doorstep. Everything I wanted and needed for a much deserved break after a long intense 18 months of nursing.

Borth-y-Gest is a friendly and relaxing village with lots of places to visit nearby and a great get away. It has two cafes and a bistro serving great food and friendly service. Being golfers we had several golf courses to choose from within a distance of half an hour in the car. Our favourite being Porthmadog GC a mile away. We felt very relaxed after our stay at the cottage.

It's very small. there are very few channels (though that may be down to local reception), the aerial cable needed frequent attention when reception broke up, and the handset didn't work well. On the plus side, it was a good base for discovering the area and the bed was very comfortable.

The back of the cottage is hardly used. The kitchen could do with a makeover and the drains do smell. It is always clean and the bed is comfortable. A bit of sealant at the back of the basin in the bathroom would be good.

Borth-y-Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen.
