“Honestly it was a really lovely pleasant stay.”

We didn't have to worry about any essentials. You can tell that the owners are very thoughtful people and has gone over and beyond to make sure that everything was provided for the things that we may need. Even dogs little treats and own bed were provided if you were to bring your dog. The rooms were beautiful and the beds were so comfortable. Although there were no back garden, there is however a perfect view if you go up the steep steps and relax with a brew taking it all in. The area was ...

The area was perfect for where we wanted to go. Zip world is about 20 mins away where they have bounce below, titan zip line, mine tour etc. Snowdon is about the same. Fforest coaster ride is about 30 mins away. Lots of activities we manage to cram in the area in 4 days, we booked these beforehand. There is an info shop outside the bus stop in village for bus times etc. The village is a 10 mins walk and is in a nice quiet area with a beautiful river flowing through. Really nice mountain views. Evening meals were nice but they do closed early at 9pm and the pub shuts at 10pm so best to go earlier. All in all we had a lovely experience and the owners made sure we were happy with everything. Thanks guys we loved it.

The property

Swn yr Afon is a traditional stone holiday cottage on the outside with a contemporary interior!

Overlooking Afon Glaslyn, close to the pretty village of Beddgelert, it makes for an ideal holiday retreat in the beautiful Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park for couples, friends or a family.

So much care and attention has been taken by the owners to create a wonderfully equipped and welcoming home from home that will not disappoint.

Entering this beautiful, double fronted cottage you will experience a lovely warm, Welsh welcome, immediately being drawn into the open-plan living space.

The sitting room has a stunning accent wall, with two leather sofas and a separate chair set around the warming woodburning stove and Smart TV, providing ideal space for quiet evenings in, especially when the evenings are cooler!

The kitchen area is well-appointed and fully equipped for you to prepare that delicious evening meal or leisurely breakfast before heading out and about to explore this wonderful area.

The bedrooms consist of a double with seating area and TV and a twin room, these two rooms face the front of the cottage and boast views of the mountains too, whilst a single bedroom is at the rear of the cottage, served by a shower room.

Swn yr Afon has a shallow frontage with two benches, ideal for your morning drink listening to the sound of the Glaslyn river.

At the back of the cottage, accessed from the first-floor landing via a glazed door are steps up to a hillside decked area with seating and breathtaking mountain views.

Parking is provided in a shared lay-by just 20 yards away.

Beddgelert is less than half a mile and is a delightful village with a good selection of shops, pubs and cafes alongside the river, alongside some wonderful wooded walks and a whole range of footpaths that surround the village.

Be sure to visit the famous grave of Gelert while you're there.

Mountain biking is well-catered for locally with a number of centres in the area but if you are looking for something less strenuous, perhaps a ride on the Welsh Highland Steam Railway which runs through the village taking you to Porthmadog on the coast or to the royal and historic town of Caernarfon with its majestic castle will appeal.

A little further afield is Blaenau Ffestiniog, home of the Ffestiniog Steam railway and if you are in need of an adrenaline rush then there is always ZipWorld Titan!

Llanberis is not too far away either with it’s scenic lake and the Mountain Railway which you can jump aboard to get to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

This lovely cottage provides a great base for exploring this part of North Wales.

Note: Short breaks Friday - Monday, Monday - Friday only.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £350.

About the location

BEDDGELERT

Porthmadog 7.7 miles; Caernarfon 12.8 miles.

The picturesque village of Beddgelert lies in the heart of the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon). Beddgelert is a bustling village with arts and craft shops, tea rooms, welcoming pubs, including Saracens Head and the Royal Goat, and restaurants, centred around the Afon Glaslyn river. A leisurely stroll along the river will take you to the Aberglaslyn Pass, one of North Wales’s most famous beauty spots. The Welsh Highland Steam Railway passes through the village on its journey from Porthmadog to Caernarfon. Beddgelert is famed for its monument to the Welsh Prince Llewelyn's dog, whom the Prince killed thinking it had attacked and killed his son, only to discover afterwards it had been defending his son from a savage wolf attack. From here, you can easily access Porthmadog, home to a Maritime Museum, the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, the Black Rock Llamas, and Porthmadog Golf Club, as well as Borth y Gest, where you can hike along the Beach Path, spend a day at the beach, and dine at the popular Black Rock Beach Club with stunning sea views, onwards to the Llyn Peninsula and beyond, this is an ideal location for a Welsh holiday.
