“Peniarth Ganol was the perfect retreat for escaping the noise of fireworks with our dogs.”

It’s incredibly quiet and peaceful, with stunning views of Bird Rock right from the property. Despite feeling secluded, it’s just a short drive to Tywyn, where you can find all the essentials. There are also some great pubs serving food and fantastic places to visit even closer by. The cottage is by far the most well-equipped we’ve ever stayed in—you could easily cook a full Christmas dinner here! It’s the only place we’ve visited that even has pint glasses, much to my husband’s ...

It’s the only place we’ve visited that even has pint glasses, much to my husband’s delight. The king-size bed is exceptionally comfortable as well. We loved it so much we’ve already booked again for next year!

The property

Tywyn 4 miles, Aberdovey 8 miles.

Peniarth Ganol is a beautifully renovated farmhouse set close to a working farm, hidden within the magnificent Snowdonia National Park near the village of Llanegryn.

A rural pet-friendly cottage boasting superb views of Craig yr Deryn and the Dysynni Valley, this spacious dwelling is the perfect base for large families or friends of eight eager to explore the North Wales countryside.

As you make your way through the farmyard and pull up to the property, be sure to appreciate the character and charm of the stone-fronted walls and breath-taking surroundings.

Grab your bags and head into the warmth of the utility room where you will find a shoe rack, washing machine and a traditional drying rack, great for kicking off your mud-splattered boots after a long country walk and throwing your dirty clothes in the washing machine before you enjoy a lovely warm shower in the nearby contemporary shower room.

Once you're feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, make your way through to the traditional cottage kitchen with attractive oak worktops, striking original stone fireplace and a wide selection of appliances for you to use as you prepare a hearty lunch for the whole group.

Serve up at the dining table as you discuss your plans for the evening and look forward to the many more action-packed days planned for the remainder of the holiday.

Place the dishes in the dishwasher and clear the table before getting the fire going by placing a log on the woodburning stove whilst the others gather on the sofas to select a blockbuster movie for all to enjoy, from Netflix on the Smart TV.

Later in the evening grab a board game from the many available and delight in some friendly competition around the dining table.

Tuck the children up in the bunk bedroom and send them off to sleep with their favourite bedtime story before heading back downstairs and cracking open a bottle of wine.

As the entertaining evening draws to a close, pick yourself up and carry yourself off to bed; there are three further bedrooms to choose from including a roomy king-size, a delightful double and a twin bedroom, all finished with charming oak furniture and crisp white bedding.

Indulge in a morning soak in the beautiful roll top bath with claw feet that can be found in the first-floor bathroom, complete with an overhead shower, hand basin and WC.

Play with the kids on the lawn on a warm summer's day whilst the chef of the group prepares a picnic, so you can bask in the sunshine as you dine alfresco.

Perfectly located in the Dysynni Valley and a short drive to the start of the walk up Cadair Idris, these two popular locations are great for starting a family ramble.

Start your day outdoors with a hike up Craig Yr Deryn and embrace the magnificent landscapes before descending back to the property and heading to the historical Castell y Bere.

In Tywyn why not visit the small Talyllyn Railway, perfect for some steam train spotting or hop on the train at Fairbourne Railway for a scenic journey with picturesque views.

Take the Barmouth Ferry over to Barmouth Harbour for a stroll along the beach before hitting up the local shops for a souvenir to remind you of your holiday and dining in one of the local cafes.

Visit the popular seaside town of Aberdovey, a small village on the side of the River Dyfi in Gwynedd, a perfect spot for weekend coastal walks.

Whether you're exploring the Slate Caverns in Harlech or learning to surf in Snowdonia, make your next holiday a memorable one at Peniarth Ganol.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £400.

About the location

TYWYN

Aberdovey 4 miles; Dolgellau 20 miles.

The tranquil town of Tywyn lies on the sweep of Cardigan Bay, perched on the end of the imposing Cader Idris mountain range where the landscape tumbles into the sea on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. The promenade and town are all on one level, ideal for that gentle evening stroll by the clear blue water of the Bay. Shopping in Tywyn is a pleasure, with a regular open-air market, and local shops offering a wide range of local produce and gifts. The proximity to mountains and sea means the town also offers a wide variety of activities, from mountaineering to surfing, and the area offers leisurely rambles through the beautiful countryside. Slightly further afield lie the towns of Dolgellau and Aberdovey (with its golf course), while attractions such as Harlech Castle, Llanfair Slate Caverns and the Talyllyn Railway, together with the sandy beaches of the Cambrian coast make this an ideal location for a relaxing break.
