“The cottage is really lovely, but for our Christmas week it was FREEZING cold.”

Only one radiator for both kitchen and lounge/diner. (A very large radiator next to the table was completely disconnected and un-usable.) The light bulbs throughout were either dead or very, very dim, and the light fitting in the kitchen was broken - and potentially dangerous. There were only two out of six bulbs in the bedroom light fitting. The morning after our arrival, which was Christmas Eve, we drove to Portmadoc and bought some decent lightbulbs and an oil-filled radiator to get the place warmed up. There was no kindling for the fire, no TV connection in the bedroom, ONE tea towel for a week, and only 3 side plates. There was no butter dish so we used a side plate, and then had to keep washing up the other two. We didn't use it, but there was a rusty old tin opener in the kitchen drawer. The tea, coffee, sugar and milk, allegedly provided, was a joke! Owner: look inside the coffee canister in the kitchen and see the totally solidified granules in it. How long has it been like that? The few teabags also looked like they'd been there for years. On our last day we found stuff stashed in a high up cupboard. A jar of coffee, fresh teabags, dishwasher tablets (we were left ONE in the kitchen), long-life milk in tiny sachets (use-by date almost up, yet there were probably a hundred of them in the box), and a handful (if that) of paper sugar sachets like you get in cafes. All in all, we made the best of it because my husband had just undergone heart surgery and needed a nice peaceful rest, which we had. The lack of essentials mentioned above just seems downright MEAN, though. We've loved the Sykes Cottages we've used before, but won't go back to this one, especially when you're expected to leave your car in a layby 100 yards down the road, and out of sight. I left our car there just on the first night, then parked it tight up against the wall in the lane for the rest of the week. It was in no one's way at all.
