    “It is such a delight to stay here.”

    This is our second visit and we look forward to staying here again. The place is very comfortable, peaceful and has remarkable scenery all around. The hostess is attentive, kind and careful. There is so much to do in the area we look forward to exploring more another time.

Glan Y Gro Apartments

Set in a spectacular position on the lakefront of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), a Site of Specific Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation, in Gwynedd and the Snowdonia National Park is the Glan Y Gro Apartments. Encompassed by 4.5 acres of woodland, these apartments make lovely bases from which to explore this scenic area, whether you’re a couple, a group of couples, or friends getting together but enjoying your own space throughout your break. Each with a balcony of their own, the apartments are ideal for avid birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, with an abundance of wildlife to gaze upon, including otters and their young splashing around the shallows, buzzards, herons and owls that frequent the area, and you may even catch sightings of mergansers and goosanders, and eagles. We are conveniently located where a few points of interest are no more than one hour’s drive away from us. Take advantage of your surroundings with a swim in the lake, or a day of fishing, sailing or kayaking/canoeing, as long as you have purchased the correct permit! The well-known Bala Lake Railway is within reach and a popular attraction in the area, which happens to pass through Glan Y Gro. Bala is just a stone’s throw away, while the towns of Barmouth, Dolgellau and the former mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog are just a scenic drive away. History buffs will love day trips to National Trust’s Ysbyty Ifan, Conwy and Caernarfon’s castles and Rhug Chapel, as well as the unique Italianate village of Portmeirion. Thrill-seekers however, may be more interested in an action-packed day at Zip World Slate Caverns and reaching the summit of the iconic Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon). The area as a whole makes the perfect outdoor experience, with a wealth of elite walking paths and trails, including The Arans, the Arenigs and the Berwyns nearby. The bustling market town of Bala lies within the beautiful Snowdonia National Park and is located at the head of Llyn Tegid, Bala’s famous lake, which is the largest natural lake in Wales and home to a unique fish called the Gwyniad, a relic of the Ice Age. Renowned as a centre for great watersports including fishing, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and whitewater rafting, Bala is also the headquarters of the narrow gauge Bala Lake Railway. The town itself is steeped in history and has a range of interesting shops, inns and restaurants, and an historical Town Walk. Surrounded by the wonderful Berwyn Mountains on one side and the beautiful Snowdonia Mountain Range on the other, this is a mecca for climbing, walking, mountain biking and many other outdoor activities. An ideal location for touring all of North and Mid Wales including the stunning Cambrian Bay Coast with the six-mile long Harlech Beach, overlooked by its majestic medieval castle.
